Super Silver at ISAs

With the Senior A Volleyball girls playing their last tournament at home before provincials in late November, the ISA tournament was full of excitement and intensity. With four games on Friday (after almost a full day of classes) the girls’ brains were full of new information and set on finding success at the end of this tournament. The first game was against powerhouse York House from Vancouver, ranked #2 in the province; the girls knew they were going to have to dig deep and play tough. With incredible blocks from Rachel J, Hope ’16, the team won the first set leaving the girls feeling their passion grow and unity as a team strengthen. Losing the second set, the game ended with a split. With a game break, the girls rested and prepared to play Crofton House and then Southridge. Splitting both those games, the team knew they had to win the remaining two games in the round robin section of the tournament. After grabbing a quick dinner as a team in the cafeteria, the girls quickly returned to the gym to play West Point Grey from Vancouver. Going into the game focused and calm, the girls knew what they needed to do and worked as a team for every point. Winning it in two straight, the girls ended Friday night on a good note. Player of the game honours went to Rachel, Hannah C, Allard ’15, Allie W, Hope ’16 and Lauren Y, Mack ’16 who all played exceptionally well. Sadly, Rachel landed wrong and sprained her ankle so she would not be able to play on Saturday. Starting the morning off with a game against St. Michaels University School from Victoria, the team played hard and was able to win in two sets with player of the game going to Lauren H, Allard ’15. A round-robin result of seven wins and three losses meant they were playing in the gold metal game against York House! Warming up with concentration and desire, an atmosphere of determination surrounded the girls as they prepared to battle hard in front of the home crowd. With a great pre-game talk from coach Fougner, the girls were ready to play with grit and passion. Not getting down on themselves, the girls fought back after being down early on and lost the first set by only five points. With the second set underway, the perseverance and fire poured from the girls onto the court and into every touch of the ball. Although Rachel was unable to play, she was full of great support and knowledge to share with the girls. With another close loss of 26-24 the girls were not able to grab gold but stood tall and proud with the silver medal around their necks, and player of the game going to Mollie MG, Mack ’15. The weekend was a huge success for the girls and ended with a meeting to discuss the California Trip starting this Tuesday. It is a trip where the girls will bond even more and return ready for the final trip to provincials and all that that road holds.
