Term Two Academics

Term Two Academics

The following poem was delivered to the school at Assembly on Thursday. You walk into class and feel so distressed You forgot your textbook, but at least you’re well dressed. You’re not making sense, like a longsleeved vest You sit down in your seat and “Oh no” there’s a test. “I thought it was next week” you cry in your head You feel like Doctor Malcolm Crowe, already dead. Brentwood has tricked you, you’ve all been mislead Term one was Judge Judy, now it’s Judge Dredd. You were going to study last night, you had the ambitions But you didn’t and there’s no way you’ll pass in these conditions. You feel rubbed raw, like chafing, like friction.   Watching Monday Night Raw, was the wrong decision. You silly pigeon hawk, you should have studied John Locke Gone over chalk talk instead of having this writer’s block. Why did you get so distracted? Can you not read a clock? Were you hit with the People’s Elbow? Distracted by The Rock? Like a somnambulist you tersely answer questions Like a con ambulance you curse your own profession. Why did your parents sign you up to endure this oppression? You want to burn school down by the looks of your facial expression. You don’t feel like an underground water reservoir, no you don’t feel well You feel as if your Scantron sheet was composed in Hell. Is it A B or C? Honestly you can’t even tell You feel like you ran out of tacos but you work at Taco Bell But you pause and you think, well this term is pretty short And if I put in the effort the way I do to my favourite sport, The marks I receive now will in my future support. I won’t resort to arson; I’d end up in federal court. Even in times when you feel academically scarred Getting a bad mark on a test is only a yellow card. Talk to your teacher, do extra help, go and put in that extra yard I believe in all of you Brentwood, if you all study hard. Toby CH, Privett ’15, Assistant Head Prefect, Academics
