Thanksgiving Feast

Last Thursday before students and staff alike travelled off campus for some Thanksgiving fun with family and friends, the school gathered as our big family to celebrate with a Thanksgiving feast. As a sea of house ties, number ones, and excited faces gathered in the cafeteria in their house groups, the smell of turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes swept through the cafeteria. The evening began with opening remarks from Assistant Head, Mr. Felix and Head prefect, Katlan S. Shortly after, to the pleasure of the entire student body, tables began to be invited up to indulge on the tasty array of treats. As plates full of turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes and more walked by, kids who had been waiting patiently began to stir.
After everyone had their first helping in front of them and were beginning to settle down, a loud applause roared throughout Crooks Hall as food services members were celebrated for delivering such an incredible meal. Can you believe they were able to serve 650 people? It was amazing, and a true show of what Thanksgiving is really about: giving to others.
After all plates were licked clean (except for the last few Whitall boys who were on round three of turkey and stuffing) the performances and speeches of the night began. Many were impressed by Peter L and Morgan W’s heartfelt stories of their journeys through India, in which they each devoted their time to the service of others. After their stories were shared and their messages about giving to others conveyed, the musical aspect of the night began.
Every entertainer was a highlight as we listened to beautiful renditions of Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now”, Green Day’s “21 Guns” and more. The night ended with everyone singing along to an amazing cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” on the guitar.
This event is a highlight of the year for many and I truly am grateful to all who helped in making my last Thanksgiving with the Brentwood family something to remember. I hope that everyone had as lovely a time as I did and went on to have a fun holiday break with their families.
