The Blog Blog
The rower felt it before he saw it. The blood. Although his callused palm had gone through its protective biological functions to prevent the loss of boldly fluids – it was to no avail. The blister made a sickening popping noise, and out flowed the mixture of sweat and blood. Instinctively, his other hand grasped at the wound defensively. This was a mistake. Up until this point the crew of 8 were moving like a well–oiled machine. Their strokes were stalwart, strong, and timed to perfection. This was no more. The slight change of pattern caused the oar to crab violently and hit the treacherous ocean current, flipping the boat into the icy waters of the Pacific. The crew staggered back to their respective houses, to try and gain back some feeling into their limbs. Ethan S, Privett ’15 trudged his way into the Privett House common room, where I lay relaxed on the sofa. He looked in pain. “How was rowing?” I asked. His knees buckled like a broken doll and he fell awkwardly to the floor. After several minutes of panting and spitting he sputtered: “I wish I was in Blog.” Yes you do, I thought. Yes you do. Welcome to the Blog Blog where I will blog about the Blog. Blog is one of the many superlative Arts choices that Brentwood College School has to offer. Albeit there are only a limited number of spots open every year so there is never a guarantee to get in, one should always keep an eye open for a spot in the best fine art the school of Brentwood offers: The Blog Often I am asked, “Why do the Blog as a fine art?” There are myriads of answers to this question. For Brentwood students who enjoy writing, this is a fantastic way to practice your art. Not only do you gain valuable photojournalism skills, but also your writings are published on the Brentwood website for an audience of thousands and this is an achievement to be proud of. Unfortunately, you may not get the amazing experience of being a rower, or becoming a better sculptor, or playing in the jazz band, but there are always reasons against these. I mean being a rower would be great — but the local orca “Toothy” has already gobbled three students this year and I just don’t want to take that risk, not to mention that “haunted bandsaw” that brutally sliced up my roommate’s hand (Damian M, Privett ’15) during sculpture class. Oh, also, if you’re in band you have to listen to tubas. Nobody wants to listen to tubas. In all seriousness, I write for the blog because I think it is the best fine art there is, and I feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that I am helping my school in a certain way. Other members of the blog team answered differently as to why they write for the blog:
Jeen S, Whittall ‘14 said: “I write for the blog because my course selection this year did not include English Lit AP, so I took the program to keep my writing skills sharp.
Karli S, Hope ‘15 said: “I write for the blog because I love my school, and writing for the blog helps me feel even more connected to it.”
Jackson H, Privett ’15, never at a loss for a witty clip, said: “I don’t write the Blog. The Blog writes me.”
The Brentwood arts program is venerable and truly world class. The Blog is essential in maintaining this coveted program’s wholeness. With a team of keen writers at the ready, the Blog will always remain both informative and fun to read. From all of the blog team we wish you a great day, and hope you consider blog as an option for the future. Toby CH, Privett ‘15
