The Canadian Mens eight beats Cambridge University
Three former Brentwood rowers raced for the Canadian “B” eight on the historic Oxford – Cambridge Boat Race course in London, England this past Sunday. Jamie Faris (Class of 2000), Pete Dembicki (Class of 1998) and Dave Calder (Class of 1996) rowed in a tune-up race against Cambridge University. The three former Brentwood athletes are members of the Canadian team vying for seats on the Olympic squad. The 4-mile race was contested for the first mile, but then the Canadians took over and won by three lengths. There are three other former Brentwood athletes trying out for the Olympic dream: Malcolm Howard (Class of 2001) and Scott Frandsen are members of the “A” eight, and Jan Tize (Class of 2004) is a new addition to the senior national team (but did not make the trip to England). With the crew selection gearing up over the next four weeks, there will be a great deal more news in the near future. “Row Canada Row”
