The Cream of the Choir Crop: Victoria Festival 2015

On a sunny afternoon this week, the Brentwood Concert and A Capella Show Choirs went to the Victoria Performing Arts Festival with the feeling of both excitement and nervousness. This was a very important experience for the performers: it was the first time they were being judged by an adjudicator. On our way there we were discussing how bad it would be if we messed it up, and what the adjudicator would be thinking of us. The result, however, was not what we expected. The A Capella Show Choir performed first. Waiting outside, the singers were worried and nervous. Why? When we heard inside the hall a mysterious scream by the adjudicator for the previous band, we were all shocked. “Isn’t that a performance? What will the adjudicator do to us?” the singers thought to themselves. Finally, the show choir entered the performing hall, with legs shaking. After a brief introduction by Mr. Newns, the performance started. The Concert Choir also came in to support their fellow singers. They first song, “The Rose” featured Jaclyn C, Alex ’16 & Sarah R, Hope ’17. With their lovely voices the Show Choir began their three songs confidently and ended perfectly in pitch. While this group was anxiously waiting for the response of the adjudicator, the Brentwood Concert Choir waited excitedly for their performance. The adjudicator didn’t judge us in the way that we expected. Instead, he stated how amazing we are as a show choir and also gave us constructive criticism. After helping us re-arrange our positions, we sounded even better. The concert choir performed shortly after and they did a great job as well. Though it was a tiring and tough day, both choirs experienced the “Cream Of the Crop” reward: a treat at Dairy Queen on Mr. Newns. Nancy M, Mackenzie ‘17
