Tie-Dye on a Sunday Afternoon

A veritable flock of Brentwood students owning white bathrobes, socks, t-shirts, jeans, and even underwear came by Mrs. Felix’s house last Sunday for a tie-dye and doughnut OMNI meeting. We all got our hands dirty and dyed as we struggled to comprehend the complicated art of tie-dye, but in the end we came away with a very stylish new wardrobe. After the tie-dye, we got down to business in the first OMNI meeting of the year. OMNI is planning on expanding its horizons with the prospect of speakers, talk groups, arts and crafts, awareness campaigns, and of course, more tie-dye. OMNI stands for Open Minded Non-discriminatory Individuals. We are a group dedicated to supporting and educating Brentwood’s students on matters of sexuality and gender. OMNI is not just for gay people, it is for everyone with an open mind and a love of tie-dye. OMNI is not the “gay club”, or the “gay thing”, but we’re a group of students pursuing a safer, more inclusive, and better educated future for everyone. Joining is simple: just show up! Anyone and everyone with an open mind is welcomed to attend, even if it’s just for one meeting to see if it’s for you. “You don’t have to be questioning your sexual orientation to be part of OMNI. We just need people who want to make Brentwood a safer place for people of all sexualities,” says Nicole C, Mackenzie ’17. “You can be straight, gay, whatever, you just have to have an open mind.” As a reminder, this week (October 26 – November 1) is Asexual Awareness Week.
