Although 80% of Brentwood students are boarders from various places, the other 20% percent are day students. Being a day student can sometimes make one feel like an ostrich amongst a flock of flamingos. At times, it feels easier to bury your head deep in the sand and hide, rather than find the confidence to engage yourself in the wide variety of opportunities available to you. To make the most of your Brentwood experience, here are a few little tips to remember. Go to all the events you can. Sometimes you may not feel like going, but it’s never worth missing. When you first start at Brentwood, it may feel a little overwhelming, but after a week or so, it will get more comfortable. Everyone is very welcoming and will not hesitate to introduce themselves, so you should do the same. The way you are going to develop closer friendships is going to social events outside of the normal classroom environment. Don’t be afraid to talk to new people! Besides your social life, academics are important as well. Even though you do not have prep every day like boarders, you must make time for your homework each evening at home or on campus. Group projects are sometimes a challenge so be sure to organize some time to stay and work with your group. Using your Brentwood email is also very important to check frequently in case of important announcements. You need to know that a lot of your time will be spent at school (academics, arts athletics and social life) so it is a good idea to bring extra clothes. If you decide to sleep over at any point (and you’re welcome to) bring your toiletries and a pillow for extra comfort. Just be yourself and don’t be afraid to join in!   Lily S, Hope ‘17, Day Student
