Trophies Under the Topsoil

Trophies Under the Topsoil

Many weeds later, Mrs. Richardson’s Twenty First Century class managed to clear out the Brentwood Community Garden and furnish it with new potatoes, onions and smiles. Arduous yet rewarding gardening left all of the Grade 9 students feeling triumphant, some marching away with a sack of a few dozen potatoes as their trophies.  Johanna H, Emma F and Sarah F ended the day by cooking the fruit of their labor to make scalloped potatoes. Despite technical difficulties, the organically grown potatoes turned out to be a delicious way to end the day. After gingerly watching Food Inc. the class was refreshed to cap off their unit on food with getting back to their roots. Emma F, Alexandra ‘17
