Varsity Volleyball Spiking for Kelowna

It’s been a while since the last Senior A Volleyball update but it’s been worth the wait! On Halloween weekend, the team spent the weekend in Vancouver at the Independent School Association tournament. Friday afternoon, we went undefeated in pool play and headed off to the home of April B, Hope ’16 for some team bonding. Good food, good friends and some friendly water games in the pool saw us go back to the hotel ready to face some tough competition Saturday. Thank you to all the parents and family for the delicious meal and to the Barnes family for opening their home to us! Saturday’s winning streak brought us to the finals – playing York House for 1st Place! Unfortunately, we fought hard but went home with 2nd place. Two days after our well earned Midterm Break ended, we found ourselves together on the bus – focused and determined – heading up to Qualicum. We knew the competition we would be up against and were determined to become North Island Champions. Up against Woodlands in the final, we battled and put our best volleys forward to win in two sets! Brentwood College School were North Island Champions for the first time in a long while!!! Winning the North Island Championship didn’t mean a spot at the Provincials – that was still on the horizon. We would have to place 1st or 2nd in the Island Championship to have that privilege. Saturday, November 21st, Brentwood became Island Champions! It was an incredible win – Woodlands were up 2 sets out of 5 – it seemed like we were to go home in 2nd place again! Rising out of the serves, blocks and passing, we came back to win three games in a row – it was a true test of teamwork! After the game the officials gave out 6 all star awards and 1 MVP. Two of the All Stars went to Brentwood, acknowledging Lauren Y, Mack ‘16 & Taylor C, Allard ‘17. The MVP award, acknowledging the most outstanding player went to Allie W, Hope ‘16!! It was a very successful and inspiring weekend and now off to Kelowna we go!!! Earning our spot in the Provincial Championships has taken hard work, dedication, some missed school and trust within the team. Trust we would all play our positions, trust we could pass, serve, and spike for the point and trust in our coaches who have spent endless hours encouraging us and believing in us. No matter where we place next week, we are all happy we have had such a great season! Natalie M, Mack ‘16
